A little bit about me
When I started this journey in the fall of 2023, I didn’t know what to expect. I had absolutely no idea what being a writer was—but I heard it calling to me so I leaped, hoping that the net would appear… Here is the first thing I wrote after making that leap, I didn’t even know at the time that it’s considered a personal essay. I still feel like an infant at times—completely in awe of this new world.
The Courage to Write
It’s scary. I didn’t even think I could read until 4 or 5 years ago, or “read for real”, as I would say. I couldn’t make it through a magazine article, much less a book. I’d drift off into another world after a paragraph or two, and lose my place all together.
…So here I am, a career near-do-weller, that has decided to switch professions again—leave it to me to pick a career that is virtually impossible to make $ with🙃.
It’s all my middle child’s fault. She’s in her early twenty’s and was back at home for a little while, just trying to figure out where she fits in the world. Me being THE DAD, I was about to give her some advice—but just then I realized that I my self was not following the advice I was about to give, so instead I decided to lead by example.
I knew that I wanted needed to write, but had no idea how to get started. So I did the only thing I could think of—I enrolled in a Creative Writing program at the closest university.
Over the next year, I continued to work as an Over the Road driver, and a farm hand—btw I’ve got a series of short stories titled, The Farmhand Chronicles in the works🤠, all while writing and studying this craft with every spare second I could find.
The more I learned, the more I realized how difficult it would actually be to make a living as a writer. I am writing a novel, and anyone who is on that same path knows that it is pretty unlikely for a novel, or even two to provide enough income to live comfortably. And when I’d just about decided that I’d need to keep my day jobs and maybe one day I could write my book, I learned about Copywriting.
I’ll forgo the rest of my history lesson, but checkout my Take Your Shot essay, for more on this journey. Things are coming together, slowly but surely.

The Southern Copywriter blog newsletter is published on Sundays, and they’ll be a mix of personal essays and fiction. Most will be quick reads, around 500 words—seldom do I publish anything over 1k words. I like’em short😉I know your time is valuable, I’m even kicking myself right now for running this email so long🙃
The Testimonial Essays, and newsletters that focus on Copywriting will be published as completed. They will be clearly marked, making it easy to read or skip-over depending on your interest. *Most Copywriting content be available to Paid Subscribers only.
