The King of Procrastination
Why do I make things more difficult than they need be?
I excel in procrastination. Like, I bet I can hang with the best of you! I can come up with endless reasons not to do anything that might be considered productive. Oh, it involves going outside, nope. You mean I have to call someone? No thanks. Yeah I know it’s absolutely necessary and there’s no way around it, but maybe if I wait another minute the world will explode.
It can be anything, even things I like doing: Yoga in the mornings. Journaling. Heck, even getting out of bed. I should be outside right now, it’s a beautiful spring Saturday. But nope, I’ve sat here thinking of a hundred reasons not to call and borrow a tractor that I know good and well is available. The owner, a neighbor, not only doesn’t mind me using it, he’d be offended if he knew I was trying to wriggle out of asking. Have I called him? Nope. Instead I’m writing this essay😉
But as usual I’ll bite the bullet, put my big-boy pants on and complete the task. And then I’ll feel like a doofus for making a big deal about it. The driveway will be nice and smooth, making both me and my sweetheart happy. And I’ll relish in the satisfaction of a job well done.
So why, oh why do I make these things more difficult than they need be?
Fast forward two days: I did make the call, and do feel quite accomplished now that the driveway is smooth and limb free. (Btw-My sweetheart lifted me up in the loader bucket with the chainsaw to cut those limbs. Don’t worry, it was only marginally dangerous;) So now I’ll have no worries about roof clearance when I’m pulling trailers in. And after this morning's rain, I see that I’ve done a good job diverting the field’s flood water away from the yard.
My new task to procrastinate? The Jeep registration renewal.
Both mine and my sweetheart’s birthday is this month. But when I went to renew our vehicle registrations on Friday, I was unable to get my wife’s new tag. Her Jeep has been ticketed by a school-zone traffic camera in a town nearby. It’s where our dentist, a good friend of ours lives. I won’t say who was likely driving when said speeding ticket was issued, take a wild guess at who’s the culprit. Truth be known, that isn’t the first one of these…only the first for that vehicle.
Anyway, the 80$ ticket will need to be paid before I can go back and get a new sticker for her Jeep tag. I’ll have to call the Homerville Courthouse and get the ticket number, because I may have thrown away the mailed copy. But I can’t pay them, I’ll have to do that online for an additional fee. Then after I pay the ticket, I’ll have to go back up to our tax office and pay for the registration renewal. 🤔How many more days are left in this month?
Thanks for reading! Are you like me? Do you find yourself procrastinating things too? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
