Is it Manifestation?
Or is it Synchronicity?
I commented a Note recently by one of my favorite Substackers. She asked, “Do you believe in manifestation? Why or why not?” Thanks for prompting this essay Katie Switzer !
That got me thinking🤔 Is it Manifestation, or is it Synchronicity? I was once all in on manifestation, but now I’m not quite so sure. I know that everything is connected. Todo el asunto. So it made a lot of sense. I even got a huge confirmation, I was paid to make a trip I’d been dreaming of!
I love to travel. But not just to go places, what I really like to do is explore them. I want to immerse myself into the local culture. I’d prefer a month at least in any given place, anything less is just stopping through. But that’s obviously not always practical, so I have to make due with what I can get. And on this occasion, I get to drive from Indiana to Alaska. It was the trip I’d been longing for.
I’m a professional driver in my day job, a hotshot and a transporter. Most of the time I haul cargo and travel trailers with my pickup, but occasionally I’ll take a drive-away recreational vehicle. I’ve driven every state in the continental US that doesn’t lie northeast of NY– Btw, Nova Scotia is next on my list, so hopefully I’ll be able to check all those states off soon too. I’ve actually driven all through Mexico, but not as a transporter…that’s a different story. Anyhow, I love to drive, to explore, and I’ve found a way to do that and get paid. Whoop!
I’d been driving professionally for about two years, but I was beginning to get a little bit restless. I’d explored much of the US by this time but I longed for something else. There were two places on my list, the Andes and the Canadian Rockies, specifically: Peru, Argentina, Banff, Jasper, and Alaska, via the Alaskan Highway. And since three to six months in South America didn’t seem very obtainable at the time, I began to focus my attention on Canada and Alaska. This also happens to be about the same time I ran across, The Secret, a book about manifestation.
It made so much sense, so I began to practice and low-and-behold, I started to notice things beginning to line up within my life. Manifesting was working! The more positive energy I put out, the more I received. People started smiling back at me, work and life in general seemed to be clicking along pretty good. And like I mentioned in the beginning, I got the biggest confirmation I could have hoped for in my trip to Anchorage. I got paid four-thousand dollars to do what most people pay thousands for; I drove an RV from Indiana to Anchorage via the Icefields Parkway and the Alaskan Highway. I took twelve days to make a trip that could’ve done in six. It was amazing! But, was it a product of manifestation?
If so, how does the universe choose? Where’s my check for $100,000? I manifested that too! Hell, it was even the wallpaper on my phone screen for more than a year🙃
Well I’ve learned a new word recently, Synchronicity. I like this word too, and I think it explains a lot. I’m currently participating in, The Artist’s Way, by Julia Cameron. I say participating because it’s not a book you simply read. And I’m beginning to think that maybe Manifestation and Synchronicity work together, to give us what we’re working towards.
Alone they’re nothing, one without the other is powerless. Just manifesting for something or some outcome, is only wishing for it. You have to put the work in too. And likewise, how will the universe know what you’re working towards if you never tell it? If you don’t know what you want, there’s no way of obtaining it, that's for sure.
So I think the answer is that it’s Manifestation & Synchronicity, not or. Manifestation is a prayer. It’s our part, it’s what we control. Then as we work towards our goal, God helps us along. That’s Synchronicity. Together we make the divine plan a reality, and in it, our dreams come true.
Thanks for reading! I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments. Do you believe in Manifestation?

Agree it’s both! Our thoughts create our reality, and synchronicity is signposts/communication from Spirit along the way.
For me it’s a constant conversation with Spirit. I take notes and even pictures of the signs when I can because some of it is just unbelievable.
Doing a good job Micheal.love reading your post.
