Dream On
Dear Dreamer,
This weekās newsletter is inspired by the Stories from the Jukebox song prompt, Dream On, by Aerosmith. Stories from the Jukebox is my other Substack publication, where each week myself and other writers share prose inspired by song. And not only do I have multiple essays and short stories published there, but if you look in the comments and Curtain Call posts youāll find a treasure trove of stories from some of the best writers on this platform!
Thisāll technically be my second submission for this weekās prompt ā I never intended on publishing this. But as it quite often seems, events this week have prompted me to alter my plans.
This is a letter to you my precious dreamer ā donāt get discouraged, I believe in you.
Dear Dreamer,
Iām writing this to someone who is very important to me ā someone I love very much. Iām writing this to you.
I know that you are disappointed in these results, and thatās okay. Itās okay to feel discouraged today, those are normal feelings ā just donāt stay there too long. This is just one more obstacle that you must overcome to get to where you want to be. The obstacle is the way ā turn it into fuel for your fire. Keep dreaming, and never lose sight of your goal. But you must keep working too.
The dream is just the beginning ā it only points you in the direction. After youāve identified the dream, the goal. Thatās when determination and hard work come in. Because yes, anything is possible ā but only if you take action. Just dreaming wonāt get you anywhere.
I didnāt intend on writing you this letter, Iād already made my submission to this weekās Stories from the Jukebox song writing prompt, Dream On, by Areosmith. But as I studied the history of the song, I ran across this quote from Steven Tyler in, Grammy Awards Magazine, that reminded me of you. It said-
āPeople ask me all the time what āDream Onā is all about. Itās simple. Itās about dreaming until your dreams come true. Itās about the hunger and desire and ambition to be somebody that Aerosmith felt in those days. You can hear it in the grooves because itās there.ā
So Dream On ā but donāt stop there, ambition will only get you so far.
Get to work, and when the going gets tough ā because it will, donāt let it whip ya. Dig a little deeper ā youāre tougher than you know. Youāve got this! šŖ
Dream until your dreams come trueāØ
With love, MJ
Don't Let It Whip Ya
I think that more often than not, that just by having the, āDonāt let it whip ya,ā attitudeāwe have already won. Weāre then just waiting for the circumstances to catch up.

Iāve working on poetry quite a bit lately ā itās not something that comes easy to me. Not like my stories and essays at all ā they require very little āworkā. The biggest obstacle to writing them seems to be time ā once I make it, the words pour out onto the page. But poetry is different ā I wouldnāt say that I experience writerās block, I just, it just doesnāt flow. I get in my head a little bit and over think every word. Maybe Iām just being hard on myself, I mean I have no formal training whatsoever. Or maybe it just aināt my thing? Either way is fine, but I aināt scared to try. And Iāll keep working at ā I aināt gone let it whip me! š Got any tips or pointers? Lmk in the comments, Iām open to suggestions.
Here is the poem I shared via note earlier this week. I hope you like it!
Dream On
I dream of being a best seller
I dream of changing the world
The light of my dreams
It shines so bright
My words reaching others
Who fight the good fight
Will I reach heights of fortune and fame
That best seller status, a famous name
That doesnāt matter
Itās just a game
My dreams that come true
Start here with you
Dream On Dreamer Dream On
Dream, until your dreams come trueāØ
