Dream On
Dear Dreamer,
This weekâs newsletter is inspired by the Stories from the Jukebox song prompt, Dream On, by Aerosmith. Stories from the Jukebox is my other Substack publication, where each week myself and other writers share prose inspired by song. And not only do I have multiple essays and short stories published there, but if you look in the comments and Curtain Call posts youâll find a treasure trove of stories from some of the best writers on this platform!
Thisâll technically be my second submission for this weekâs prompt â I never intended on publishing this. But as it quite often seems, events this week have prompted me to alter my plans.
This is a letter to you my precious dreamer â donât get discouraged, I believe in you.
Dear Dreamer,
Iâm writing this to someone who is very important to me â someone I love very much. Iâm writing this to you.
I know that you are disappointed in these results, and thatâs okay. Itâs okay to feel discouraged today, those are normal feelings â just donât stay there too long. This is just one more obstacle that you must overcome to get to where you want to be. The obstacle is the way â turn it into fuel for your fire. Keep dreaming, and never lose sight of your goal. But you must keep working too.
The dream is just the beginning â it only points you in the direction. After youâve identified the dream, the goal. Thatâs when determination and hard work come in. Because yes, anything is possible â but only if you take action. Just dreaming wonât get you anywhere.
I didnât intend on writing you this letter, Iâd already made my submission to this weekâs Stories from the Jukebox song writing prompt, Dream On, by Areosmith. But as I studied the history of the song, I ran across this quote from Steven Tyler in, Grammy Awards Magazine, that reminded me of you. It said-
âPeople ask me all the time what âDream Onâ is all about. Itâs simple. Itâs about dreaming until your dreams come true. Itâs about the hunger and desire and ambition to be somebody that Aerosmith felt in those days. You can hear it in the grooves because itâs there.â
So Dream On â but donât stop there, ambition will only get you so far.
Get to work, and when the going gets tough â because it will, donât let it whip ya. Dig a little deeper â youâre tougher than you know. Youâve got this! đŞ
Dream until your dreams come trueâ¨
With love, MJ
Don't Let It Whip Ya
I think that more often than not, that just by having the, âDonât let it whip ya,â attitudeâwe have already won. Weâre then just waiting for the circumstances to catch up.

Iâve working on poetry quite a bit lately â itâs not something that comes easy to me. Not like my stories and essays at all â they require very little âworkâ. The biggest obstacle to writing them seems to be time â once I make it, the words pour out onto the page. But poetry is different â I wouldnât say that I experience writerâs block, I just, it just doesnât flow. I get in my head a little bit and over think every word. Maybe Iâm just being hard on myself, I mean I have no formal training whatsoever. Or maybe it just ainât my thing? Either way is fine, but I ainât scared to try. And Iâll keep working at â I ainât gone let it whip me! đ Got any tips or pointers? Lmk in the comments, Iâm open to suggestions.
Here is the poem I shared via note earlier this week. I hope you like it!
Dream On
I dream of being a best seller
I dream of changing the world
The light of my dreams
It shines so bright
My words reaching others
Who fight the good fight
Will I reach heights of fortune and fame
That best seller status, a famous name
That doesnât matter
Itâs just a game
My dreams that come true
Start here with you
Dream On Dreamer Dream On
Dream, until your dreams come trueâ¨
