A Girl with No Name?
She could be anyone…
“She didn’t want a million admirers, she just wanted one.” -A Girl With No Name.
She was one of my first subscribers. I think we joined Substack about the same time — around the end of January. I may have been that one — that first subscriber, if not, I was the second for sure. I can’t remember exactly. But one thing is for sure, I’ve been intrigued by The Girl With No Name, ever since.
There are quite a few anonymous writers and readers on this platform — Substack makes it easy to be anonymous, which I think is great. Unlike other platforms, one is able to have a voice here without the vulnerability of putting themselves “out there.” Maybe it’s because this is primarily a writing platform, and pseudonyms are accepted in the writing world?
I get it — my novels and the accompanying short stories are all being written under a pen name.🤫
I like it. I like the mystery of it. Who is, A Girl With No Name? She could be anyone…
Could she be my sweetheart? Secretly liking and sharing my work when I’m not looking.
Is she famous? Is she a celebrity? Just looking for an escape, relishing a little bit of the “normal life.”
She could be Princess Kate, using a VPN — after all, I’m sure that someone with a username like @janedoe isn’t going to allow anyone to see their actual home location.
What if she’s a big-wig at Simon & Schuster, or one of the other big houses? And she’s quietly rooting me on. Maybe she sees talent hidden somewhere beneath all the typos and mistakes?
She could even be a famous author herself — one of my favorites!
🤔I don’t think she’s from my past — no one who knew me, knew that I’d even started a Substack back when she subscribed. Although she could be — maybe fate has led us back to one another for some reason.
And then recently, she threw me for a complete loop! The Girl With No Name subscribed to The Wiregrass Farmer on Substack — that’s my flagship Newspaper to Substack publication. It’s a small-local newspaper in Ashburn, GA.
Is she local? Does The Girl With No Name live in Southern Georgia? 🤯
Is she a millionaire, or a starving artist like myself? She could be Jeff Bezos’s first Ex, isn’t she into philanthropy? After all, Girl is one of my two paid subscribers — and if that doesn’t count for philanthropy, nothing does!
Or, is The Girl With No Name just that — someone who feels lost in the margins? Someone that feels unseen?
Is she a mother that has little time to herself? Does she feel as if that role has taken over who she is?
Is she struggling with her workload — and doing everything she can to juggle work and school?
Does she believe that she is in reality, A Girl With No Name?
If so, just know that I see you Girl. I may not know your identity, but I see you. I see the Notes. I see the Posts. I see the Likes, and the Restacks. And I am truly thankful to have this connection with you, whomever you are.
Have a great life Girl!
Do your family and friends know about your Substack? How would you feel if suddenly everyone your “real life” subscribed?

A Girl with No Name liked this essay back in March, I hope you do as well.
It's Witchcraft
Was it love at first sight, or was it witchcraft? I’ll never know for sure. It doesn’t matter anyway, that moment was gone before I even knew it existed.

Aw, funny and sweet tribute! Gave her a follow. Sounds like, whoever else she is, she’s a super kind stranger who sees your talent. Kinda like you do for others! A little reciprocation from the universe!
